The AGHC produces and presents events ranging from World AIDS Day activities on the campus of UCLA to an Art + Activism series as a joint program with the UCLA Art|Science Center.
Principal funding is provided by the ArtsForum program of the UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture and the Arts Initiative program cooperatively funded by the Arts and Architecture Deans office along with the Dean's office for Theater, Film and Television. Additional support is provided by the three research Centers; the four departments; the Office of Instructional Development; the UCLA Center for Performance Studies; and the Regent Lecturer program.
Art + Activism Event Series 2006-2007
The Art + Activism event series is a joint program of the Art|Global Health Center at UCLA and the UCLA Art|Science Center, with their respective departments, World Arts and Cultures and Design|Media Arts, the Theater, Film and Television department, and the Chicano Studies Research Center. These departments work together to present an event series featuring activist artists in various forms. Seeking to explore, deconstruct, and reconstruct critical dialogue around the phrase "arts activism," ten lectures and a symposium were presented touching on topics as diverse as activist puppetry, border disturbance art, and peace over violence. A website was created to document the presentations and web streams for the series.
World AIDS Day 2006
World AIDS Day commemorates those who are fighting, have died from, or are affected by AIDS. Join a procession leading to Bruin Plaza where we have speakers, performances, and free giveaways. Also, visit a portion of the National AIDS Memorial Quilt in Kerckhoff Art Gallery and help create UCLA's own memorial art piece.
